Mitchell Starc makes bold statement on India’s squad depth

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc praised Team India’s squad depth, stating they are the only team capable of fielding three different sides across formats in international cricket.

Starc, who missed the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for personal reasons, mentioned that India is currently the only team capable of fielding three different teams in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.

“I think they (India) are probably the only nation that can have a Test team, a one-day team, and a T20 team play on the same day against Australia in the Test, England in the one-dayer, and South Africa in the T20I; and India will be competitive,” he remarked.

Mitchell Starc highlighted the depth of the Men in Blue’s bench, claiming that no other team in the world could match it.

“No other country can do that,” he added while speaking on Fanatics TV’s YouTube channel.

Furthermore, the left-arm pacer discussed the Indian team’s advantage in the Champions Trophy.

“When one team gets to stay at one place, no flights, no restrictions upon them in the place, train at the same venue every time, play every game at the same venue, I would tend to agree with some of the opinions that have come out,” he said.

“I can understand where a lot of the guys in the other seven teams were coming from and some opinions from broadcasters,” Starc said.

Mitchell Starc also stated that India won the tournament fairly because of their superior performance.

“There’s been a lot made on that topic. Obviously, India tried to push that to the side and say it’s a neutral venue, but there’s been a lot to come out of the tournament during and post.”

“India won fair and square, they were the better team, they are a bloody good cricket team, and have been across all formats for a long time,” he concluded.
