Pakistan white-ball head coach Mike Hesson has shared his reflections after the team’s 2-1 defeat in the T20I series against Bangladesh in Dhaka, calling for greater squad depth and consistency heading into major tournaments.
In a post on X, the former New Zealand coach acknowledged Pakistan’s current eighth-place T20I ranking and laid out his vision for improvement under his leadership.
“Currently sitting 8th in the world, we need to create depth and competition for places, as well as play a style of cricket that can give us more consistency over time, especially at key events like the Asia Cup and World Cups,” Mike Hesson wrote.
The 50-year-old coach found positives in the series despite the loss, particularly praising the team’s adaptability across differing conditions.
“The first six games on two contrasting pitches gave us key insights. A young batting group shone with 200+ scores early,” he added.
“Mirpur, which is the lowest-scoring venue in T20I, certainly tested our adaptability, and after struggling early, we fought back and showed an ability to learn with experience.”
Hesson also lauded the emergence of new talent, noting that several players stepped up during the series.
“New players stepped up, showing promise and, in some instances, excelling. Specialist Coaches have played a key role in developing bowlers both here and at the NCA,” he stated.
He concluded on an encouraging note, pointing out a significant improvement in Pakistan’s fielding, an area that has long been under scrutiny.
“Fielding was a huge step up in the last two matches and was starting to look like an International fielding side. Onwards,” he concluded.
For the unversed, this was Hesson’s second series in charge since taking over as white-ball coach. His tenure began with a 3-0 T20I series win at home against Bangladesh.
