AMMAN: Pakistan’s Judoka Malaika Noor won a historic silver medal at the Amman Asian Open Judo Championship 2025 here on Monday in the capital of Jordan.
With her medal, the 20-year-old became the first-ever Pakistani female athlete to win the honor in any Asian-level judo competition.
Noor, hailing from Peshawar, competed in the 52kg category and demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
After defeating Raneem Aljazazi from Jordan in the semi-final, Malaika Noor missed out on the Gold medal as she suffered a narrow defeat against a Saudi opponent in the final round.
Following her achievement, the president of the Pakistan Judo Federation lauded Malika for her historic achievement.
“The President of Pakistan Judo Federation, Col. Junaid Alam, along with the entire federation, extended heartfelt appreciation for her historic achievement,” the federation said in a statement.
Malaika Noor, who also represented Pakistan at the World Junior Judo Championship in Dushanbe last year, has been one of the nation’s talented judokas.
Alongside Noor, three other Pakistani Judokas, Noor Khan and Muhammad Abbas Khalil, participated in the event, thus reaching quarterfinals in their respective categories.
Noor Khan won his preliminary round of 60 kg against host Mohammad Almashaqbeh, followed by a defeat against Burundi’s Raoul Brillant Nganji in the next round.
Abbas also had a similar start to the competition with a win against Jordan’s Khader Alwraikat in the initial round of the 73kg category. However, he was defeated at the hands of Lebanon’s Ghady Moussa in the pre-quarterfinal.
