Mahoor’s father wins two gold medals in Indoor Rowing championship

Pakistan’s badminton champion Mahoor Shahzad’s father won two gold medals in the indoor rowing championship held in Portugal.

Sexagenarian Mohammad Shahzad claimed the medals in 500m and 2000m races of the Master Category, which is for individuals aged between 60 and 64.

He clocked one minute and 33 seconds in the 500m race, whereas he completed the 2000m race in seven minutes and 20 seconds.

It is important to note here that Mr Shahzad’s daughter Mahoor is the first ever badminton player to have the honour of representing Pakistan at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Indoor rowing also called ‘erging’ – named because of the equipment used for this type of sport, the ergometer – is a growing sport with competitions taking place all over the world.
