DAMBULLA: Chamindu Wickramasinghe backed his unbeaten half-century with two wickets and lifted Dambulla Sixers to stun Galle Marvels in the 12th match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024 here on Tuesday.
Chasing 161, the Marvels’ batting unit unfolded on a modest 135 despite a stunning half-century from Isuru Udana.
Udana took on Dambulla Sixers’ bowlers and glimmered a ray of hope for Galle Marvels, who were reduced to 62/8 in 12.3 overs.
The all-rounder struck five fours and as many sixes on his way to a 38-ball 72 before falling victim to Wickramasinghe on the first delivery of the final over.
Chamindu Wickramasinghe struck again in the over and sealed the deal for the Sixers.
Nuwan Thushara and Dushan Hemantha led the bowling charge for the Sixers with three wickets each, followed by Wickramasinghe with two while Nuwan Pradeep and Dilshan Madushanka contributed with one apiece.

Earlier after being put into bat first, Dambulla Sixers registered a commendable total of 160/8 on the board, courtesy of Wickramasinghe’s half-century.
The all-rounder waged a lone battle amid the Sixers’ collapse from 82/3 to 122/8.
He then switched gears in the last two overs, adding a decisive 38 runs to the Sixers’ total.
Wickramasinghe smashed six fours and three sixes on his way to a 34-ball 56.
Besides him, Lahiru Udara (26), Kusal Perera (17) and Reeza Hendricks were the other notable contributors.
Kavindu Nadeeshan was the pick of the bowlers for the Marvels with 3/16 in his four overs while Udana claimed two wickets. Maheesh Theekshana, Zahoor Khan and Dwaine Pretorius made one scalp each.
The 25-run victory helped Dambulla Sixers evade the bottom and claim the fourth spot in the LPL 2024 standings with four points in five matches while Galle Marvels slipped to second.
