ANURADHAPURA: Former Sri Lanka cricketer Lahiru Thirimanne on Thursday, was hospitalized in a local hospital here after being involved in a serious car accident.
According to the details, the car Thirimanne was travelling in, was involved in a head-on collision near the north-central part of the city, on Thursday morning.
The nature of Thirimanne’s injury is yet to be determined, but he is currently in stable condition at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, where he received medical attention.
Besides him, at least one other person accompanying Lahiru Thirimanne in the car is also receiving treatment at the same hospital.

Details further suggested that Thirimanne was on pilgrimage when the accident occurred. His car crashed into a heavy vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
Lahiru Thirimanne, who made his international debut for Sri Lanka in 2010, featured in 44 Test matches, 127 ODIs and 26 T20Is.
He represented Sri Lanka in three T20 World Cups, including their title victory in 2014, and featured in two ODI World Cups.
He also captained Sri Lanka in five ODIs. His last international appearance for the Island nation was in March 2022, more than one year prior to his retirement from international cricket in July 2023.
