Pakistan middle-order batter Khushdil Shah expressed confidence in the national team’s batting approach after their loss against New Zealand in the first T20I at the Hagley Oval on Sunday.
Khushdil, who returned to the T20I team after over two years, was the top scorer for Pakistan, making 32 runs off 30 balls, including three massive sixes.
After being asked to bat first, the Pakistan team struggled against a disciplined New Zealand bowling attack and were bundled out for 91, with Kyle Jamieson leading the charge by picking up crucial wickets.
The Men in Green encountered early trouble, losing three wickets for just one run. Kyle Jamieson caused havoc with the ball, claiming three wickets early on.
Pakistan’s batting lineup collapsed, getting dismissed for just 91 runs in 18.4 overs.
New Zealand chased down the target in the 11th over, giving them a 1-0 lead in the series.
Khushdil Shah backed the team’s approach stating that we have discussed playing with intent and a positive approach.
“It was being discussed that we need to play with intent and play positively to fulfil the demand of modern-day cricket,” said Khushdil.
The left-handed player further emphasized the impact of conditions and new team members, highlighting their intentions.
“But, when we came here, the conditions changed for our players. Secondly, the players are new and the team is building. They showed the intent but unfortunately coped with the failures.”
“So, by the will of Almighty Allah, if they are given the chance and they keep playing with the same intent, our team and its combination would become better,” he concluded.
