Kapp’s 150 rescues South Africa after early collapse against England

TAUNTON: South Africa’s star all-rounder Marizanne Kapp put on a stunning show with the bat as her resounding knock of 150 runs rescued the touring side after an early collapse in the one-off Test against England.

In the one-off Test between the two sides, the hosts’ captain Heather Knight invited the Proteas Women to bat first after the coin flipped in her favour.

Batting first, the touring side suffered an early disaster as they lost their four wickets for a mere 48 runs as the English pacers wreaked havoc over their top-order.

Following the early disaster, the star South African all-rounder Kapp stood up for her team and played a vital knock to rescue her side from a paltry total.

The right-handed batter stood her ground firm and kept the scoreboard ticking while the skipper Sune Luus and Anneke Bosch contributed with significant contributions; scoring 27 and 30 respectively.

Kapp continued to dominate the English bowling attack and put on vital partnerships with the tailenders, who made their way back after scoring cheaply.

Following Kapp’s astounding knock, South Africa rescued from 48-4 to 284 at the conclusion of the first day’s play. She scored a magnificent 150 off 213 deliveries, laced with 26 boundaries.

For England, Kate Cross led the way with four wickets, while Lauren Bell claimed two. Issy Wong, Nat Sciver, Sophie Ecclestone, and Alice Davidson-Richards struck out a batter each.

The home side will now resume their innings at 0/0 in response to South Africa’s 284.
