Jayden Seales fined for ‘dressing room’ send-off in Barbados Test

BARBADOS: West Indies pacer Jayden Seales has been fined 15 percent of his match fee and slapped with a demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct on the opening day of the first Test against Australia.

The incident took place in the 55th over of Australia’s first innings when Seales dismissed skipper Pat Cummins and pointed toward the dressing room in celebration.

The gesture was deemed a Level 1 breach under Article 2.5 of the ICC Code, which covers actions or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a dismissed batter.

Seales, speaking after the day’s play, described the send-off as a product of competitive emotion.

“It didn’t really mean anything. It was just a bit of frustration,” he said. “Pat hit a couple of good shots off me, so I just showed him where the dressing room was. There wasn’t anything more to it.”

This is the 22-year-old’s second offence in the past 24 months, taking his total demerit points to two.

Despite the sanction, Jayden Seales continued to play a pivotal role in the Test. On day two, he removed Josh Inglis for 12 to claim his sixth wicket of the match, keeping West Indies in the fight.

Earlier, Shai Hope (48) and captain Roston Chase (44) added 67 crucial runs for the sixth wicket to give West Indies a slender 10-run first-innings lead.

Australia, in their second outing with the bat, once again struggled up top and ended the day at 92/4 with a lead of 82 runs. Travis Head (13*) and Beau Webster (19*) will resume proceedings on day three as the contest remains finely poised.
