Jasprit Bumrah wins Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year 2024

DUBAI: Indian Pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah has been awarded the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Award for International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024.

Bumrah pipped Australia’s Travis Head and England’s formidable duo of Joe Root and Harry Brook to win the coveted award.

Jasprit Bumrah was in electrifying form across all formats this year, playing a pivotal role in his team’s significant victories, including conquering the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

The right-arm fast bowler was also named the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2024. Not only that, he was also included in the ICC Men’s T20I and Test Team of the Year.

Bumrah claimed 15 wickets from eight matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, showcasing his skill in a thrilling final against South Africa where he grabbed crucial wickets and turned the match on his head.

The 31-year-old bowler’s notable performance in the T20 World Cup came against Pakistan where his mouth-watering 3-14 spell changed the course of the game towards India’s.

His prowess extended to Test cricket as well, where he claimed an astounding 71 wickets in just 13 matches, underscoring his status as one of the leading fast bowlers in the game today.

The right-arm quick stellar Test performance was evident in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where he dismissed 32 batters across five Tests, averaging 13.06 with a remarkable strike rate of 28.3.

In the first four Tests of the series, the pacer left Australian batters in tatters during his heroics with the ball, often picking wickets and dictating terms almost at will.
