DUBAI: India’s fast bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been named as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2024 on Monday.

The right-arm fast bowler bagged the award due to his stellar bowling performances. He was an outlier in world test fast bowlers in the year 2024 keeping India in contention for the World Test Championship (WTC) final race.

Following a long absence due to a back injury in late 2023, Bumrah made a resounding return and carried his team’s bowling attack throughout the year.

The 31-year-old topped the wickets chart in Test cricket last year bagging 71 wickets in 13 matches at a ridiculous average of 14.92.

His best performance came in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia where he was the leading wicket-taker with 32 wickets at an average of 13.06.

”I am very much honoured to receive the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award,” Bumrah said after winning the prestigious award.

“Test cricket has always been a format I hold close to my heart, and to be recognised on this platform is truly special.”

Bumrah also became the first bowler in Test history to take 200 wickets with an average below 20 as he reached the milestone with an average of 19.4.
