Japan Cricket Association CEO Naoki Alex Miyaji has announced that teams can arrange their own accommodations for the Asian Games 2026.
The announcement came after teams raised concerns over arrangements.
Miyaji told Press Trust of India (PTI) that participating cricket teams have been offered hotel accommodation.
“The ACC has been discussing accommodation options with AINAGOC [Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee] for a long time,” Miyaji said.
“The participating teams in cricket are being offered hotel accommodation. Many other sports are being accommodated in much more limited facilities such as a cruise ship or container hotels. The teams are free to arrange their own accommodation if they choose to do so,” he added.
He further revealed details of the arrangements, saying that AINAGOC has maintained close coordination with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to provide the best facilities.
“Toilets will be available within the player area,” the CEO continued.
“There are both temporary and permanent facilities at the venue. The facilities on the ground are temporary, but AINAGOC has worked very closely with the ACC for over a year now to ensure that the best facilities are provided within the limited timeline and facility restrictions.”
“Despite being temporary, the facilities [make-shift dressing rooms] will provide as comfortable a space as possible for the players and officials. There are also permanent facilities around the ground which will be available to the players.”
The men’s competition at the 2026 Asian Games is scheduled to run from September 24 to October 3, while the women’s tournament will start on September 17 and finish on September 22.
Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Oman will join Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, who secured automatic qualification as they are Asia’s Full Members, and Japan, who qualified by virtue of being hosts, in the men’s competition.
