India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has officially joined Nottinghamshire for a short-term red-ball assignment, marking his debut in the County Championship.
The 25-year-old left-hander has signed on to play two Division One matches this month, stepping in as a temporary replacement for South Africa’s Kyle Verreynne, who is set to leave for national duty ahead of the Proteas’ upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe.
Kishan will be available for Notts’ home fixture against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge starting June 22, followed by an away clash against Somerset at Taunton from June 29.
Sharing his excitement over the new challenge, Kishan said he’s looking forward to testing himself in English conditions and learning from the red-ball format.
“It’s a big moment for me, my first time playing county cricket,” Ishan Kishan said.
“I want to make sure I grow as a cricketer, and this stint will really help me build new skills. Trent Bridge is a special venue, and I’m thrilled to play there.”
Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores echoed the excitement, calling Kishan’s signing a valuable addition to the squad.
“What excites me the most is how keen Ishan Kishan is to be here,” Moores said.
“He’s got proven power and presence as a middle-order batter. More importantly, he’s motivated to take his red-ball game to the next level, and that hunger always makes a difference.”
Kishan’s arrival adds further strength to Nottinghamshire’s campaign as they sit at the top of the Division One table, with four wins from seven matches and 115 points so far.
He also becomes the latest Indian player to join the County Championship this season, alongside Tilak Varma (Hampshire), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Yorkshire), and Yuzvendra Chahal (Northamptonshire).
