India’s tour of Bangladesh could be postponed again: BCB president

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal has hinted that India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh could be pushed back again, with the two boards currently discussing the schedule.

India were initially scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August for a six-match limited-overs series, comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is. The tour was subsequently deferred to September.

According to the BCB’s revised schedule, the three ODIs were due to be played on September 1, 3 and 6, followed by T20Is on September 9, 12 and 13.

However, uncertainty remains over the dates, with Iqbal confirming that discussions between the BCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are ongoing.

“Both boards remain in discussion about the India series. The dates may be shifted here or there,” Iqbal said during a press conference.

The uncertainty comes after the BCB announced the Game Development Trophy, an age-group tournament scheduled to take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur from August 28 to September 9.

Iqbal was asked whether the introduction of the tournament indicated that India’s tour had been scrapped.

The BCB chief clarified that the tournament would not prevent the board from hosting India should the two sides finalise the series dates.

“This tournament is being held in Mirpur, but it can be shifted to the Basundhara ground in two minutes. If the India series is locked and fixed, we will schedule it accordingly,” he said.

The BCB had initially planned to stage the India series in August before moving it to September, but the latest comments suggest further changes could be made to the schedule.

The two boards are expected to continue discussions before a final decision is made on the timing of India’s Bangladesh tour.
