India remains host of U-17 WC as FIFA lifts ban after nine days

ZURICH: Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) lifted the ban on the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Friday, imposed earlier this month over undue third-party influence.

The lifting of the moratorium also implies that the Under-17 Women’s World Cup, which was set to take place in India from October 11 to 30, will take place as intended.

“The Bureau of the Council decided on 25 August 2022 to lift the suspension of the AIFF with immediate effect,” FIFA announced in a statement.

“As a consequence, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 scheduled to take place on 11-30 October 2022 will be held in India as planned,” the statement further read.

FIFA, on the other hand, stated that it and the AFC will keep an eye on the circumstances and will assist the AIFF in holding its elections on time.

It is worth noting that FIFA suspended AIFF for being managed by administrators after former chief Praful Patel lingered in office beyond his mandate without new elections, which courts declared unconstitutional.
