India become No.1-ranked team across all formats

DUBAI: Indian cricket team displaced Australia from the top spot in the Test rankings to become the No.1 ranked team across all formats.

According to the ICC Ranking team rankings update, released on Wednesday, India jumped ahead of Australia to claim the top position on the list of Test teams with 115 rating points.

India, who were already the No.1 ranked side in One-Day and T20 internationals rankings, made their claim to Test supremacy after they crushed Australia by an inning and 132 runs in the first Test of the four-match series in Nagpur.

It is for the first time that India has achieved top rankings across every format of the game at the same time.

However, to hold on to their first position in the Test rankings, India need to win the second Test in Delhi against Australia – placed second on the list with 111 rating points.

It may be noted here that India sealed the top spot in ODIs last month after they clean-swept the consecutive ODI series at home. They first whitewashed Sri Lanka in a three-match series before sweeping New Zealand 3-0.
