India beat South Africa by 45 runs in ICC U19 World Cup

PROVIDENCE: Vicky Ostwal picked up five while Raj Bawa bagged four wickets to help India bowl out South Africa for 187 and win their opening match by 45 runs in ICC U19 Cricket World Cup here on Saturday. 

Set to chase 233, Australian batting line flopped in front of rookie bowling attack of India. Dewald Brevis fought hard with his 65 runs including two sixes and six boundaries. George Van Heerden made 36 including a six and three boundaries.

Earlier, Yash Dhull smashed 82 runs laced with 11 boundaries to drive India to post 232 runs. Matthew Boast bagged three wickets while Aphiwe Mnyanda and Dewald Brevis took two wickets each.

In another match, UAE beat Canada by 49 runs. Punya Mehra (71) and Ali Naseer (73) guided UAE to 284/7 after they decided to bat first.

Parmveer Kharoud and Gurnek Johal Singh took two wickets each for Canada.

In reply, Mihir Patel’s 96 went in vain as Canada managed to get 235. Mihir smoked eight boundaries and two sixes.

For UAE, Nilansh Keswani, Adhitya Shetty, Jash Giyanani, Alishan Sharafu bagged two wickets each.

On the other hand, Ireland beat Uganda by 39 runs. Centurian Joshua Cox drove Ireland to 236-9 in 50 overs. His innings included eight boundaries and a six.

Juma Miyaji, Pascal Murungi, Joseph Baguma, Matthew Musinguzi bagged two wickets each for Uganda.

Uganda’s captain Pascal Murungi fought hard with his 63 runs in run-chase. But, Ireland was on top with their bowling. Matthew Humphreys picked four wickets.

In last match on Sunday, Zimbabwe outclassed Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 238 runs. Emmanuel Bawa (100) helped Zimbabwe post 321-9.

For PNG, Rasan Kevau bagged three wickets.

In reply, PNG were bowled out for mere 98 runs. Ngenyasha Zvinoera, Brian Bennett, and Victor Chirwa bagged two wickets each for Zimbabwe.
