ICC unveils nominees for Player of the Month awards for March

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday, unveiled the nominees for the Player of the Month Awards for the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for their brilliant performances in March 2024.

The ICC Player of the Month award acknowledges the magnificent individual performers on the international stage, and the names shortlisted for March span a range of formats.

The nominees for the Men’s Player of the Month include a key architect in Ireland’s first-ever men’s Test victory, a prolific frontline bowler from New Zealand, and a record-breaking Sri Lankan Test run-scorer.

Mark Adair was nominated for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for the first time after spearheading Ireland’s Test win over Afghanistan. He also made notable contributions in the shorter formats.

New Zealand’s pacer Matt Henry had a successful month with the ball as he took regular wickets in his side’s World Test Championship series against Australia.

The lineup further features Sri Lanka’s rising batter Kamindu Mendis, who earned the nomination for his memorable batting feats as Sri Lanka overcame Bangladesh in the longest format.

The women’s shortlist honours both shorter formats, with notable all-rounders from Australia and New Zealand and an explosive new batter from England among the nominees.

England’s Maia Bouchier received her maiden nomination for leading the run-scoring charts in her team’s triumphant T20I series away in New Zealand.

Ashleigh Gardner, who has won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award four times in the past, is back in the mix after helping Australia defeat Bangladesh in their ODI series.

Despite ending up on the losing side in the England series, New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr was their top run-scorer and wicket-taker in the March matches and thus was named amongst the nominees.
