DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday announced match officials for the Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, set to be played in Pakistan from 9 April.
The tournament will be played across two venues in Punjab’s capital, Lahore, till 19 April.
The sixth edition of the qualifiers will feature four full members – Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies and Ireland – and associate members Scotland and Thailand.
The newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium and Lahore Cricket Club Association (LCCA) will host 15 matches of the tournament. The event opener will kick off between hosts Pakistan and Ireland on April 9.
The panel for the tournament will comprise 10 umpires and three match referees. From Pakistan, Faisal Khan Afridi and Saleema Imtiza will share the umpiring responsibilities.
Masudur Rahman Mukul and Shatira Jakir Jesy will represent Bangladesh while Zimbabwe’s Sarah Dambanevana will feature along with Donovan Koch, Babs Gcuma, Candace la Borde, Dedunu de Silva and Shaun Haig.
Ali Naqvi, Shandre Fritz, and Trudy Anderson will be in place as match referees.
Last year, Saleema Imtiaz made history after becoming the first woman from Pakistan to join an ICC panel of umpires.
Following the induction, she expressed her thoughts on inclusion, aiming to inspire a new generation of Pakistani umpires.
“This isn’t just a win for me, it’s a win for every aspiring female cricketer and umpire in Pakistan,” Saleema said.
“I hope my success motivates countless women who dream of making their mark in the sport,” she added.
