WATCH: ICC release behind-the-scenes look at Champions Trophy design process

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has treated cricket fans to an exclusive behind-the-scenes video, offering a rare glimpse into the creation of the iconic Champions Trophy.

Unveiled on Monday, the video takes viewers through the meticulous design process of the prestigious trophy, crafted by England’s renowned silversmith, Thomas Lyte.

The footage highlights the various stages involved in bringing this masterpiece to life, from concept to completion.

Lyte, who was entrusted with the responsibility of designing the trophy, shared the challenges and dedication involved in his work.

“Designing something of this magnitude is no small feat,” Lyte explained, acknowledging the immense pressure that comes with creating a symbol of excellence for one of cricket’s most coveted trophies.

For Lyte, this project was more than just about craftsmanship. “It’s a huge responsibility, but also a true honour,” he said while reflecting on the significance of designing an award that represents the pinnacle of achievement in international cricket.

With every intricate detail captured on camera, the video offers fans a deeper appreciation of the effort and skill required to create such a renowned piece of sports history.

It’s worth noting that the ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy will kick off on 19 February with host and defending champions Pakistan taking on New Zealand in the curtain-raiser in Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.

The eight-team tournament will consist of 15 matches over 19 days and will take place in Pakistan and Dubai.

In Pakistan, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi will be the three venues to host tournament play. Each Pakistan venue will feature three group games apiece, with Lahore hosting the second semi-final.

Lahore will also host the final on 9 March, unless India qualify, in which case it will be played in Dubai. Both the semi-finals and the final will have reserve days.

The three group matches involving India, as well as the first semi-final, will be played in Dubai.
