COLOMBO: Pakistan’s teenage athlete, Huzaifa Arshad, clinched a gold medal in the cadet individual kata category at the South Asian Karate Championship held in the capital of Sri Lanka.
Huzaifa Arshad bagged the gold in the under-10 category while showcasing a dominant performance. In addition to this, Aiyana Noel added to the medals tally after clinching another gold for Pakistan in the under-12, 40kg kumite category.
A day earlier, Areesha Nadeem claimed three medals in the under-21, 50kg category. Areesha’s silver and two bronze medals significantly contributed to enhancing Pakistan’s overall performance at the championship.
Overall, Pakistan Kartekas displayed dominance in the championship, securing a total of 10 medals.
Sairish Tassaduq won an individual bronze medal and also secured a bronze in the team kata event alongside teammate Samrah Ijaz.
In the 75 kg weight category, Hasnain Jamil showcased a strong performance by earning three bronze medals in both kumite and kata events.
Pakistan currently ranks fifth in the overall standings of the South Asian Karate Championship with a final tally of 10 medals, including two gold, one silver, and seven bronze.
India is leading the table with a total of 59 medals, including 23 gold, 24 silver, and 12 bronze, while Nepal is in second position, with 50 medals, including 21 gold, nine silver, and 20 bronze.
The host nation, Sri Lanka, also won 59 medals but is in third position due to fewer gold medals, with a tally of 16 gold, 20 silver, and 23 bronze.
Bangladesh is currently in fourth place, having won a total of 24 medals: three gold, seven silver, and 14 bronze.
