LAHORE: Pakistan white-ball head coach Mike Hesson expressed confidence ahead of the National Champions Cup, saying the tournament will help in preparation for the ICC World Cup 2027.
The tournament is set to begin on 18 August at the Multan Cricket Stadium, with all seven fixtures scheduled as day-night matches.
The 50-over List-A tournament, comprising four teams — Pakistan Greens, Pakistan Whites, Pakistan Blues, and Pakistan Gold— will kick off the 2026-27 Pakistan domestic season.
The tournament will be played on a single-league round-robin basis, with the top two teams advancing to the final.
Speaking to the media, Hesson explained the decision to begin Pakistan’s domestic 2026-27 season with a 50-over List A tournament.
“We are working towards the World Cup, which is why this four-team tournament has been organised,” Hesson said.
He backed every player to showcase their ability in what he described as a highly competitive tournament.

“This will be a top-class tournament. Fans will see excellent cricket, and every player will get an opportunity to perform,” he continued.
Mike Hesson said the management wanted to give players as many List A matches as possible to prepare them for the upcoming assignments.
“We are trying to provide our players with as many List A matches as possible. Our challenge is to create maximum opportunities, and we are planning accordingly,” he explained.
Looking ahead to the 2027 World Cup, Hesson highlighted Pakistan’s record in major tournaments.
“Pakistan has traditionally performed well in major tournaments, and I hope we will produce another strong campaign,” Hesson said.
“The selectors have built strong combinations across all four teams, and I am confident we will see some outstanding performers emerge,” he concluded.
