‘Heading in the right direction’ Wasim Akram praises team performance

MANCHESTER: Pakistan’s former captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram commended the national cricket team’s performance as he congratulated the team for defeating the West Indies by five wickets in the first ODI.

The legendary cricketer in his exclusive talk with this reporter applauded the team for chasing down the mammoth target amid the hot temperature in Multan.

“The team has played exceptionally well as they chased down the 300-run target in the hot weather of Multan,” said Akram.

“I am delighted that the team is heading in the right direction,” he added.

While expressing his views on the last season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) the former captain believed that the season was not up to the expectations because of pandemic-related restrictions.

“Due to coronavirus, PSL’s last season had not been the way it should’ve been,” claimed Akram. “But now everything will be better,” he hoped.

“It will be more fun if each team has its own home ground,” suggested the former pacer.

The legendary cricketer also opined on the affairs of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) while commending the efforts of its incumbent chairman, Ramiz Raja.

“Ramiz Raja is doing a great job. ” Akram said.” He knows well what he should be doing,” he added.

“I am happy with the way Ramiz Raja works by engaging himself in everything,” he maintained.

The former left-handed pacer believed that professional bodies like PCB must be independent in their decisions including the selection of a head.

“Ideally all the professional bodies should be made autonomous,” claimed Akram. “It will be better if all the boards including the PCB select their own heads,” he concluded.
