KOWLOON: Hayley Matthews smashed a sensational 123 from 52 balls to aid the Warriors seal a commanding 94-run victory over Falcons in the final on Sunday and win the second edition of the FairBreak Invitational tournament.
West Indian batter played a blistering knock comprising 11 fours and nine sixes to help her side score a mammoth 230-run total for the loss of just four wickets after they were put into bat.
Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce also thrashed a quickfire fifty, scoring 52 from just 20 balls with help of eight fours and two maximums, to put Warriors into command.
Falcons, on the other hand, made a promising start but once the top order was removed, the chase got derailed with the lower order failing to put up any meaningful resistance.
Chamari Athapaththu and Danni Wyatt notched up 45 runs before the latter was removed in the fifth over. England’s Wyatt scored 20 from 12 when she fell prey to Bryce.
Sri Lankan skipper Chamari followed the suit quickly and made 29 from 16 before giving her wicket to Hayley.
Falcons captain Suzie Bates and no.4 batter Theertha Satish held the fort the for some time but with an ever-increasing asking rate the two succumbed to the pressure. Skipper Bates scored 25 while Satish made 29 from 32 balls.
Bryce and Hayley also etched their names on the top of the bowling sheet as they took five wickets combined to reduce Falcons to 137 for 8 in the 20 overs.
Bryce took three scalps while Hayley picked up two wickets as their all-round earned the FairBreak 2023 title for the Warriors.
