DUBAI: West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews has added another feather to her cap, clinching the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for June 2025 following her stellar showing in the T20I series against South Africa.
Matthews edged out South Africa’s Tazmin Brits and teammate Afy Fletcher to secure the honour, her fourth ICC Player of the Month title, equalling Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner for the most by a female cricketer.
The 26-year-old all-rounder was instrumental in the West Indies’ 2-1 series win over South Africa at home.
She finished as the Player of the Series after amassing 147 runs at an average of 73.50 and a strike rate of 120.49, while also chipping in with two wickets with her off-spin.
Hayley Matthews, who previously won the award in November 2021, October 2023, and April 2024, credited her recent form and team success while speaking to ICC Digital.
“It’s an honour to receive the Player of the Month award again,” Matthews said.
“I’ve been pleased with my form recently, but more importantly, it’s been great to contribute to the team’s success, especially in a hard-fought T20I series against South Africa.”
Looking ahead, the West Indies captain said she remains focused on the bigger picture.
“Recognition like this is appreciated, but my focus remains on what’s ahead. There’s a lot more I want to achieve, both personally and with this team,” she added.
“We’re heading in the right direction, and I’m excited about where we can go from here.”
