DUBAI: West Indies captain Hayley Matthews has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for April 2024 after a string of all-round performances against Pakistan.
The all-rounder edged out tough competition from South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt and her Sri Lankan counterpart Chamari Athapaththu.
Notably, Matthews won the coveted monthly ICC award for the third time, adding success in April to previous wins in November 2021 and October 2023.
Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner is the only player to have won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award on more occasions (four) than Matthews.
“I’m really happy to win the award again. The performances resulted in the team’s success and that’s the most important thing for me as captain,” Matthews said.
“To win in Pakistan … was always a big goal. I wanted to perform well and contribute to the team’s success so to be able to have performances and get the results that was really good and showed that the hard work and the concentration in Pakistan paid off.
