BRAMPTON: The persistent rain here washed out the GT20 Canada 2024 Qualifier 1 and Eliminator, paving the way for Montreal Tigers to head into the final while Bangla Tigers Mississauga knocked out of the six-team tournament.
The two top sides in the standings after the completion of the league stage matches — Montreal Tigers and Brampton Wolves were scheduled to lock horns in the Qualifier 1 in a bid to book their spot in the final.
However, the adamant rain did not allow the possibility of even a five-over a-side match and the umpires decided to call of the all-important clash without a ball bowled.
Based on the standings, Montreal Tigers, who were at the summit, advanced into the GT20 Canada 2024 final while the Brampton Wolves moved to the Qualifier 2.
Later that day, Bangla Tigers Mississauga were all set to take on Toronto Nationals in the Eliminator.
However, the second fixture of the day tasted similar fortune as the rain continued to downpour.
As a result, Bangla Tigers Missisauga, fourth in the standings, were knocked out of the tournament, while Toronto Nationals headed to Qualifier 2.
The Qualifier 2 of the ongoing GT20 Canada 2024 will be played later today at the same venue as Brampton Wolves and Toronto Nationals look to join Montreal Tigers in the final.
The highly-anticipated final of the ongoing six-team tournament will be played on Sunday.
