Nationals beat Wolves to set up GT20 Canada final with Tigers

BRAMPTON: Romario Shepherd’s four-fer, followed by a combined batting effort led Toronto Nationals to beat Brampton Wolves and set up GT20 Canada 2024 final with Montreal Tigers.

Set to chase 142, the Nationals knocked the winning runs for the loss of five wickets and 10 balls to spare.

Skipper Colin Munro provided a solid start to the run chase with a quickfire 36 run-knock up the order and remained the top-scorer for the Nationals.

Munro was followed by Mohammad Nawaz, who scored an unbeaten 24 off 27 deliveries.

Akhil Kumar was the pick of the bowlers for the Wolves with three wickets, followed by Beau Webster and Andrew Tye, who made one scalp each.

The Wolves, after being put into bat first, had a shaky start to their innings as they lost both their openers Kobe Herft (1) and David Warner (13) inside the batting powerplay with just 16 runs on the board.

Jack Jarvis then put together a crucial 27-run partnership for the third wicket with Beau Webster (8), who perished in the eighth over.

Jarvis followed in his footsteps an over later before falling victim to Jatinderpal Matharu after scoring a 15-ball 20.

Nick Hobson then took the reigns of the Wolves’ batting expedition with his sublime knock and carried his bat all the way through.

His 51-run knock which came off just 34 deliveries, featured five boundaries and two sixes.

Besides him, wicketkeeper batter George Munsey remained a notable contributor to Brampton Wolves’ total with a 24-ball 26.

Romario Shepherd was the pick of the bowlers for the Toronto Nationals, returning brilliant figures of 4/32, followed by Matharu with two wickets.

It is worth mentioning here that the winner of the Qualifier 2 will face Montreal Tigers in the GT20 Canada 2024 final, scheduled to be played at the same venue on Sunday.
