BRAMPTON: George Munsey’s blistering 69-run knock, coupled with Thomas Draca’s three-for powered Brampton Wolves to thump Surrey Jaguars by 59 runs in the third match of the GT20 Canada 2024 here on Friday.

Wolves’ captain David Warner’s decision to bat first after winning the coin toss bore fruits as his side racked up a formidable total of 198/6 on the board.

The Wolves, however, had a contrasting start to their innings as they lost both their openers Aaron Johnson (13) and Warner (15) inside four overs with just 35 runs on the board.

But, Munsey, after coming out to bat at No.4, soon took the reigns of the Wolves’ batting charge.

The right-handed batter remained in the middle for almost 10 overs and returned back to the pavilion after top-scoring for the Wolves with a 44-ball 69, laced up with five boundaries and four sixes.

Following George Munsey’s departure in the 14th over, Akhil Kumar gave a late push to the Wolves’ total with an unbeaten cameo.

The all-rounder smashed three fours and as many sixes on his way to a 16-ball 34.

For the Jaguars, Ben Lister bagged two wickets while Mohammad Nabi, Harmeet Singh, Sunil Narine and Uday Bhagwan made one scalp each.

In response, the Jaguars could only manage 139/7 in the allotted overs despite a fighting seventh-wicket partnership between Shreyas Movva and Terrance Hinds.

The Jaguars, after getting off to a dismal start, kept losing wickets at an alarming rate and were consequently reduced to 79/6 in 14.2 overs.

Following the slump, Hinds joined forces with Movva and put up a late fight.

The duo added a quick 55 runs amid their gutsy partnership that lasted with Hinds’ dismissal in the final over. He struck two fours and three sixes on his way to a 19-ball 35.

Wicketkeeper batter Movva, on the other hand, carried his bat all the way through with a cautious 41 not out in 40 balls.

Thomas Draca was the pick of the bowlers for Brampton Wolves in their GT20 Canada 2024 campaign opener with three wickets, followed by Aryan Dutt, who bagged two.

The 59-run victory put Brampton Wolves at the top of the GT20 Canada 2024 standings with two points in one match while Surrey Jaguars succumbed to the bottom.
