The fourth edition of the Global T20 (GT20) Canada 2024 has been in jeopardy as the organizers await official approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC).
According to the details, the organizers of the league have not paid their dues to Cricket Canada as of yet and thus the apex cricketing body will grant the approval once the issue is resolved.
Details further suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet issued the No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to the players for the tournament, in light of the ICC’s awaited approval for the event.
The fourth season of the GT20 will run from July 25 until August 11. The six-team tournament will be played at TD Cricket Arena in Brampton.
The inaugural edition was played in 2018, followed by the second edition in 2019. However, the third season, which was scheduled for 2020, was postponed due to COVID-19.
Ultimately, the GT20 Canada returned for the third season in 2023, where Montreal Tigers defeated Surrey Jaguars in the final to clinch their first title.
For the unversed, a total of seven Pakistan players will partake in the upcoming edition of the league.
Inaugural champions Vancouver Knights feature four Pakistan players Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Amir and Asif Ali.
Meanwhile, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz are roped in by Toronto Nationals whereas Iftikhar Ahmed will represent Bangla Tigers Mississauga.
