Two-time Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions Lahore Qalandars have appointed West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite as their captain for the highly anticipated Global Super League (GSL) 2024, set to be hosted in Guyana.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Brathwaite emphasized the advantage of his familiarity with the playing conditions in Guyana.
“It’s an absolute honor to lead the Lahore Qalandars. I’ve built incredible relationships within this team, and I’m ready to take on this challenge,” said Brathwaite.
“Knowing the conditions in Guyana, I am confident we can deliver strong performances and make our mark in the tournament,” he added.
Sameen Rana, the owner of the Lahore-based franchise, also shared his excitement regarding Brathwaite’s appointment.
“Carlos has been a vital part of the Qalandars family. His extensive knowledge of the local playing conditions, combined with his rapport with the team, makes him the ideal choice to lead us in this historic tournament,” he stated.
In addition to Qalandars, the tournament will also feature three-time Vitality Blast champions Hampshire Hawks, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team Guyana Amazon Warriors, Rangpur Riders from Bangladesh, and Victoria from Australia.
The inaugural season will be played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana from November 26 to December 6, with Qalandars facing off against Guyana Amazon Warriors in the opening match.
