Glamorgan sign Mir Hamza for rest of County Championship

CARDIFF: Glamorgan have re-signed Pakistan pacer Mir Hamza for the remaining five matches of the 2026 County Championship.

The announcement was confirmed by Glamorgan in a social media post.

“A familiar face returns. Mir Hamza is back with Glamorgan for the final five Championship fixtures, and will join the squad ahead of next week’s fixture at Sophia Gardens against Hampshire,” the caption of the post read.

The 33-year-old Hamza has played seven Tests for Pakistan, with his last appearance coming against South Africa in January 2025.

Mir Hamza played six matches for Glamorgan in 2024, scalping 12 wickets at 35.5.

The left-arm pacer will be available for Glamorgan’s final five Division One matches, as their red-ball campaign resumes with an away match against Leicestershire on Thursday.

Glamorgan are currently fourth in the Division One standings of the 2026 County Championship after earning promotion following a 21-year absence.

They are just nine points behind defending champions Nottinghamshire and will be looking to close the gap in their remaining matches.

Following the announcement, Glamorgan’s Director of Cricket Mark Wallace hailed Mir Hamza’s return amid concerns over players’ availability.

“We’re delighted to have Mir rejoining us for the last [five] games of the year,” Wallace stated.

“With such a busy international calendar and domestic seasons restarting in the Southern Hemisphere, there is limited availability at this time of the year, so we’re lucky to be able to call on a player of Mir’s quality for the run in.”

Overall, Mir Hamza has collected 517 wickets in 131 first-class matches at an average of 21.89, including seven 10-wicket hauls.
