FIFA has unveiled a special championship ring that will be awarded for the first time to the winners of the World Cup 2026 final between reigning champions Argentina and Spain on Sunday.

The winner rings are inspired by the tradition of the American sport ‘NFL’, where the winning teams are presented with the commemorative rings. A further 1,996 rings will be made available for purchase by fans. Each ring features an engraved mini FIFA World Cup trophy.

“In addition to the iconic trophy and prestigious gold medals, a new symbol of triumph will be awarded to the winning team,” FIFA said on its website of the rings.

“In a first for a FIFA competition, the tournament winners will receive bespoke championship rings, bringing one of the most recognisable traditions in American sport to football,” it added.

After the final, the winning captain and head coach will receive temporary rings to mark the occasion. The 30 championship rings will then be custom-made before being officially presented at a later date, ensuring a perfect lifelong fit.

The World Cup final will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where Argentina and Spain will compete for football’s biggest prize.

Meanwhile, America president Donald Trump has also confirmed his attendance for the summit clash.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino had announced in June that Trump would attend the final in New Jersey and present the trophy to the winners, but it had not been confirmed by the White House.

Leavitt said she did not know whether Trump would be supporting Argentina or Spain, after he criticized the European nation at a NATO summit last week for failing to help with the Iran war.

While Trump has not attended any World Cup games so far, he has been involved in the tournament in a more controversial way.

Trump confirmed earlier this month that he asked FIFA’s Infantino to review a decision to hand a red card to star US striker Folarin Balogun during a game against Bosnia.

FIFA suspended Balogun’s one-game ban ahead of the Americans’ next match, against Belgium. Despite Balogun’s presence on the field, the hosts were embarrassed in a 4-1 blowout.

Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for securing the United States the right to co-host the 2026 World Cup along with Canada and Mexico, a decision made by FIFA in his first term.
