Imran Farhat, Rana Naved appointed coaches in Afghanistan

KABUL: Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed former Pakistan cricketers, Imran Farhat and Rana Naved Ul Hasan as batting and bowling coaches, respectively, in its High Performace Centre (HPC) in Kabul.

According to the details, the two Pakistan ex-cricketers received one-year contracts to train the domestic cricketers at recently-established HPC.

The HPC was established in the Afghan capital under ACB’s revamped organizational structure which provides a range of high-performance services across coaching, training, capacity-building programs, medical services and high-performance management. The centre is responsible for selecting talented players from the domestic circuit and creating a pathway to prepare them for international cricket.

“As part of the ACB’s goals for the players and game development in Afghanistan, the Afghanistan Cricket Board is looking forward to welcoming more renowned individuals to its National High-Performance Centre,” the ACB said in a statement.

The left-handed opener Farhat, who represented Pakistan in 40 tests, 58 ODIs and 7 T20Is between 2001 and 2013, has been part of the ICC High-Performance Advance Level 3 Cricket Coaching Course for Test Cricketers and has also accomplished his Level 2 coaching course with England Cricket Board.

He also had a formidable domestic career in which he amassed 16,000 first-class runs in 230 games.

Similarly, Naved had been a prolific performer in domestic cricket, taking 1095 combined wickets in 156 first-class, 197 one-day and 126 T20 matches. Representing Pakistan in 9 Tests, 74 ODIs and four T20Is between 2003 and 2010, he bagged 133 wickets in all three formats.

The Sheikhupura-hailed fast bowler has recently served as an assistant coach for Central Punjab’s second XI and briefly worked with UAE as a bowling consultant as well.
