England skittle India for 76 to inflict their biggest T20I defeat

NOTTINGHAM: England completed a resounding win over India by bowling them out for 76 in the second T20I at Trent Bridge on Tuesday. 

Set a daunting 202, India crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for their second-lowest total inside 11 overs. The 125-run defeat marked the Men in Blue’s biggest in the limited-overs format.

The new opening pair of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma added 23 in 1.5 overs before Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue combined to tear through the visitors’ top order.

Tongue, bowling over 90 Mph ended Sharma’s stay at the crease as the southpaw was caught at point after managing 10. In the next over, Archer got Sooryavanshi, who was playing his second T20I. The left-hander hit two sixes before getting caught on 13.

The wickets continue to tumble for India as Archer and Tongue consistently bowled over 90 Mph. At the end of the powerplay, India were in a mess at 60-7.

Later on, Adil Rashid came on to bowl and immediately made an impact, removing Arsheed Singh and Varun Chakravarthy to cap off a brilliant bowling display.

Jofra Archer scalped three, whereas Josh Tongue picked up four wickets.

Earlier, England racked up 201-7 in their 20 overs, thanks to Phil Salt’s 70 off 44, including three fours and seven sixes.

At one stage, India made a comeback, limiting Three Lions to 111-4 in 12 overs. However, Sam Curran provided the innings a late impetus, contributing 41 from 24 balls, hitting four boundaries to take the total over the 200-run mark.

For India, Prince Yadav and Harshit Rana shared four wickets between them.

England are 2-0 up in five match series with the opening fixture of the series washed out due to rain.
