
AMSTELVEEN: England made a strong comeback to beat India by 4-2 in the Pool D fixture of the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 at the Wagener Stadium on Monday.
After the loss, India’s wait for a World Cup win over England continued, as they last defeated them in 1994.
India controlled much of the first half and went into the interval with a 2-1 lead. However, England responded strongly after the break, scoring three goals across the third and fourth quarters.
The victory maintained England’s perfect record in Pool D, with two wins from two matches, leaving them top of the group. India, meanwhile, have one win and one defeat.

India began their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Wales, with captain Harmanpreet Singh converting two penalty corners and Sanjay scoring from a set-piece.
England had earlier opened their campaign with a 4-1 win over Pakistan.
India remains second in Pool D on three points. They will next take on arch-rivals Pakistan, while England will face Wales.
For those unaware, India last won a World Cup title in 1975. They finished ninth at the 2023 World Cup at home.
Elsewhere, the France and Malaysia Pool B fixture ended in a 3-3 stalemate at the Belfius Hockey Arena in Belgium,
The outcome of the match was decided in the final quarter as France’s Timothée Clement netted a goal in the dying minutes of the game to draw level.
For Malaysia, Shello Silverius scored twice, while Akhimullah Anuar scored once.
In the women’s World Cup encounters, Argentina outplayed Germany by 3-2 in Belfius, whereas the Netherlands defeated Australia 4-2 in Amstelveen.
