LONDON: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), on Thursday, named a 14-member squad for the first Test against India, scheduled at Headingley from 20 June.
Bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton returns to the Test set-up for the first time since earning his sole cap against New Zealand at Headingley in June 2022.
The 31-year-old sustained a broken right little finger during the ODI against the West Indies on 29 May but continues to be assessed and reviewed daily by the England medical team.
Moreover, Brydon Carse, Jacob Bethell and Chris Woakes are also included in the squad, having last featured during the Test tour of New Zealand in December.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Gus Atkinson was unavailable for selection due to a right hamstring injury sustained during the recent Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge.
The five-match Test series between India and England is set to begin on 20 June at Headingley.
The teams will then move to Birmingham for the second Test, which will take place from 2 to 6 July. The third Test is scheduled to be held at the iconic Lord’s from 10 to 14 July.
Following that, the fourth Test will commence at Old Trafford on 23 July. The series will conclude with the fifth Test at The Oval, scheduled from 31 July to 4 August.
