JOHANNESBURG: South Africa’s white-ball captain Temba Bavuma has been roped in by Sunrisers Eastern Cape for the remainder of SA20.
After going unsold in the players’ auction for the inaugural SA20, the South African captain will now represent Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the home’s marquee league, which resumes today following the conclusion of their home ODI series against England.
The right-handed batter replaced his English counterpart Tom Abell, who was named in England’s ODI and T20I squads for their historic tour of Bangladesh.
Bavuma, who enjoyed a remarkable series with the bat against England – finishing as the leading run-scorer for South Africa with 180 runs in three matches – finally managed to impress the franchise to rope him in for the marquee league’s remainder.
It is pertinent to mention that South Africa’s white-ball captain will play his first SA20 match tomorrow when the Eastern Cape take on Durban Super Giants.
The Eastern Cape are currently placed in the second spot behind leaders Pretoria Capitals and are looking solid to make it to the league’s semi-final.
