KARACHI: Hayley Matthews showed all-round performance to help West Indies notch 45-run victory against Pakistan in the opening ODI here at National Stadium.
Matthews scored her fifth ODI fifty followed by her prominent bowling spell accounting for 3-31. Opener Deandra Dottin scored her second ODI century and partnered with Matthews to drive West Indies to 253-8 after they were asked to bat first.
West Indies got their opener Dottin in good touch who tackled the situation so well at one end despite her partners losing wickets after regular intervals. Dottin and Mathews scored 119 runs together to settle down strongly before Pakistani bowlers made comeback.
Dottin made 132 runs off 146 balls laced with 18 boundaries and two sixes followed by Matthews scoring 57 runs off 67 balls including eight boundaries. Shemaine Campbelle scored 23 runs with the help of two boundaries.
Anam Amin of Pakistan bagged her best ODI figures with finishing her spell at 5-35. Fatima Sana took two wickets in the end and Nashra Sandhu managed to take a scalp.
In reply, Pakistan were off to slow start with also losing a wicket earlier of Sidra Ameen. Average approach and pressure from West Indian bowlers led Pakistan towards losing wickets after regular intervals.
Aliya Riaz scored 46 runs off 61 balls with the help of three boundaries before getting run-out. Iram Javed struck six boundaries to score 40.
Apart from Matthews, Shakera Selman bagged two wickets while Anisa Mohammad and Qiana Joseph managed a wicket each.
