Dar nominated for ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award

DUBAI: Nida Dar has been nominated for the ICC Women’s T20I cricketer of the year award for 2022. 

International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday revealed the names shortlisted for the prestigious award which features Pakistan’s veteran all-rounder Dar, whereas, India’s Smriti Mandhana, New Zealand’s Sophie Devin and Australia’s Tahlia McGrath are the other three nominees.

Dar has scored 396 runs at an average of  56.57 and took 15 wickets in the outgoing year.

“The first and the only Pakistan bowler to have claimed 100 T20I wickets, and currently, the second-highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20Is, all-rounder Nida Dar impressed more with the bat this year,” said ICC in a media release.

“She struck three fifty-plus scores this year: an unbeaten fifty at the Commonwealth Games, similar exploits against India at the Asia Cup, and a well-made 61 at home against Ireland in November,” it added.

Dar played a crucial role in Pakistan’s headline win of the year against arch-rival India by 13 runs in the Women’s Asia Cup.She blasted a brilliant  56 off 37 before picking two wickets to help Pakistan seal their third win against India in 13 T20I face-offs.

Overall, she gathered 145 runs in six matches in the tournament at a superb average of 72.50, and also grabbed eight wickets at a meager 14.87 runs a piece.

She was also awarded the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for October for her all-round brilliance.
