MELBOURNE: Left-arm England pacer Sam Curran headlined the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 awards list as he bagged the prestigious Player of the Tournament award.
From nine nominees, the left-arm pacer who was also the Player of the final against Pakistan – which England won by five wickets to lift their second T20 World Cup title -declared as the player of the mega event for picking up 13 wickets in the tournament.
Newly crowned champions of T20s, England, received a cash prize of $1.6m, while the runners-up Pakistan bagged a cash prize of $0.8m for finishing second in the world cup.
Meanwhile, India’s veteran batter Virat Kohli, who accumulated 296 runs in six innings, finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer. The right-handed batter is also the highest run-getter in Men’s T20 World Cups history.
The former Indian captain also set the record for most half-centuries (four) in T20 World Cup 2022, while his teammate Bhuveneshwar Kumar bowled the most maiden overs (three) in the mega event.
Top-ranked T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav finished an impressive tournament as he hit the most number of fours (26), while Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza hit the most number of sixes (11) in the tournament.
New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips and South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw scored a century each in the mega event.
