England women’s cricket team’s all-rounder Charlie Dean asserted that the home side are looking to be “ruthless” in the ongoing three-match ODI series against Pakistan.
Pakistan women’s team are currently on a white-ball tour to England. The visitors suffered a 3-0 whitewash in T20Is before succumbing to a 37-run in the ODI series opener in Derby on Thursday.
England set Pakistan to chase 244 runs in the first ODI. The touring side looked in the hunt to amass the total and seal their first-ever victory in the 50-over but lost track.
With the second ODI between Pakistan and England women, scheduled to take place at Taunton on Sunday, Charlie Dean wants the home side to be more dominant in a bid to gain confidence.
“I think that’s exactly what we want to be, we want to be ruthless when we’re on top, we want to stay there,” Dean was quoted saying by The Independent.
“Against teams like Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa who may have a bit more depth in batting line-ups we need to make sure partnerships don’t form near the back of an innings and how we go about that is something we’re exploring.
“Equally it doesn’t need to come too far away from our basics, I think sometimes when you search for things then you don’t string your best balls together as much.”
Dean played a pivotal role in England’s victory in the first ODI with her all-round brilliance. She backed her 20-run knock with two wickets, removing set batters Nida Dar and Aliya Riaz.
“It was quite nice in a way to take what’s become so valuable as a T20 team and to see that in 50 overs. Glenny and Eccles are so consistent with how they go about things so it makes bowling with them really easy,” Dean said.
“Personally, I’ve looked to try and be more consistent, I’ve probably missed more than I wanted to recently, but I’m getting there with it and I just enjoy being in this team and bowling with those two in tandem, it’s good,” she concluded.
