BCCI ready to accept PCB’s ‘fusion formula’ for Champions Trophy: reports

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly mulling over the acceptance of the “fusion formula,” suggested by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) concerning the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The PCB proposed this ‘fusion formula’ last week in an effort to break the stalemate around the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

This proposal suggests that India, as they wanted, would be playing their matches at a neutral venue during the Pakistan-hosted Champions Trophy. In exchange, the PCB is seeking a similar arrangement for future ICC events that will take place in India.

Following discussions, the latest reports indicate that the BCCI has tentatively agreed to this proposal.

A significant breakthrough was achieved on Thursday evening after a scheduled meeting earlier that afternoon was postponed due to communication hiccups from the BCCI’s side.

By late that night, sources confirmed that the BCCI had indeed reached an informal consensus. According to India’s PTI news agency, the 2025 Champions Trophy is now set to be played in both Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with India’s matches to be played in Dubai.

This agreement is expected to extend its application to all ICC events through 2027. Within this timeframe, India is set to host the Women’s ODI World Cup in October 2024, followed by the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026, shared with Sri Lanka.

A final agreement is anticipated within the next 48 hours, as the ICC Board is set to meet on December 7.
