Caribbean Tigers thrash Miami Lions to stay perfect in Max60

THE CAYMAN ISLANDS: Suranga Lakmal’s economical bowling figures of 2/11, followed by Chris Lynn’s unbeaten 26-run cameo powered Caribbean Tigers to a six-wicket victory over Miami Lions in the 10th match of the Max60 Caribbean here at Jimmy Powell Oval on Wednesday.

Put into bat first, the Lions could accumulate 70/6 in the allotted 20 overs despite an anchoring fourth-wicket partnership between Gerhard Erasmus and Chadwick Walton.

The Lions had a dismal start to their innings as they were reduced to 9/3 in two overs while Unmukt Chand (3) got retired hurt.

Following the slump, wicketkeeper batter Walton joined Erasmus in the middle and launched an astounding recovery.

The duo added an important 49 runs amid their gritty partnership until Patrick Dooley dismissed Erasmus in the penultimate over.

Gerhard Erasmus remained the top-scorer for the Lions with a 20-ball 27 with the help of a six.

The Lions lost two wickets in the final over which barred them from pushing for valuable runs at the backend of the innings.

Walton remained unbeaten with a run-a-ball 22 which featured one four and a six.

Suranga Lakmal was the pick of the bowlers for the Tigers with 2/11 in his two overs while Patrick Dooley, Brad Currie and Andrew Tye made one scalp each.

Chasing a modest 71-run total, the Tigers comfortably knocked down the winning runs for the loss of four wickets and 11 balls to spare.

Opening Josh Brown went after the Lions’ bowlers from the word go and gave the Tigers a head start with a quickfire 26 off just 12 deliveries, laced up with three deliveries.

Following his dismissal, Chris Lynn took charge of the Tigers’ pursuit and single-handedly steered them to an important victory.

Lynn top-scored for the Tigers with an unbeaten 28 off 16 deliveries, peppered with three fours and a six.

Sajad Ahmadzai bagged two wickets for the Lions while Ben Manenti and Corey Anderson struck out a batter apiece.

The six-wicket victory strengthened Caribbean Tigers’ command at the top of the Max60 Caribbean standings with 10 points in five matches while Miami Lions remained at the bottom with zero points in as many matches.
