Brendan Taylor returns to ODI fold as Zimbabwe reveal squad for Sri Lanka series

HARARE: Zimbabwe stalwart Brendan Taylor has been added to the 16-member squad for the two-match One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka, which begins on August 29.

The wicket-keeper batter, who last played an ODI in 2021, is included in the squad after completing his ban on breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) anti-corruption code.

In 2022, the cricket governing body banned former Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor after he accepted breaching four charges of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code and one separate charge of breaching the Anti-Doping Code.

Following the end of the ban, Taylor returned to Test cricket in Zimbabwe’s fixture against New Zealand at the start of this month.

The Zimbabwe squad will be led by Craig Ervine, who will be leading them in their first series since February 2025 against Ireland.

Among the new additions are Clive Madande, Tony Munyonga, Brad Evans, and uncapped seamer Ernest Masuku.

Following the squad announcement, Zimbabwe Convener of Selectors David Mutendera expressed excitement at the return of Brendan Taylor.

“We are delighted to welcome Brendan back into the fold. “His experience and quality are invaluable, especially in pressure situations, and his presence will no doubt lift the dressing room,” he said.

Mutendera mentioned the experience and inclusion of young players, while emphasizing the significant amount of red-ball cricket.

“This squad has been selected to give us the best chance against a strong Sri Lankan side,” Mutendera said.

“We have combined proven match-winners with players who are hungry to make their mark, and that mix of experience and energy will be crucial as we transition from red-ball cricket to the fast pace of ODIs,” he concluded.
