CAPE TOWN: Bowlers led the way for MI Cape Town, who sealed a comprehensive win by seven wickets over Joburg Super Kings in the SA20, here on Saturday.
George Linde and Kagiso Rabada ran through the top order before Rashid Khan and Odean Smith joined the party to reduce Super Kings to 106/9 in the 20 overs after they were put to bat.
The home side, however, sailed through the target in 16.2 overs with opener Dewald Brevis scoring 42 from 34 balls.
Faf du Plessis’s side underwent an awful start when spinner Linde struck back-to-back wickets in the 5th over, dismissing Janneman Malan and Kyle Verreynne, to plunge the visitors to 31/3 after Rabada earned the first breakthrough in the 3rd over, cleaning up Reeza Hendrick on 2.
With spinners dominating the game right from the start, introducing Rashid Khan (2-14) gave a further jolt to the Super Kings as none of their batters could make a solid standing on the crease.
While seven of JSK’s batters failed to cross the double figures, Leus du Plooy scored the most run in the first innings with a jittery knock of 21 off 26.
Rabada was named Player of the match for his sensational bowling figures of 2/14 while Linde, Rashid and Odean Smith also bagged two wickets each. Waqar Salamkheil, meanwhile, had a scalp to his credit.
With the win, Cape Town surged to the top, one point clear of second-placed Pretoria Capitals.
