Belgium storm Poland 6-1 at home to relieve in UEFA Nations League

BRUSSELS: Belgium ran a rally of goals at home to thrash out Poland 6-1 in the UEFA Nations League encounter of Group four, here at King Baudouin Stadium on Wednesday.

The dominating 6-1 victory helped the Red Devils to assuage the crushing 4-1 defeat in their last encounter against the Netherlands, alleviating them from the bottom of the group.

The home side missed a few early chances before Polish striker Robert Lewandowski received a through ball and sent a lethal shot to open the scoring in the 27th minute.

Lewandowski scored his 22nd goal of the year making him the most potent forward of the calendar year

Belgium retaliated in the 42nd minute after a series of shots and saves, Axel Witsel appeared and sent the ball into the back of the net, equalizing 1-1 before the halftime.

The second half witnessed the intensification of the attack by Belgium as Kevin de Bruyne sparked the beginning of a turnaround before Leandro Trossard made double strikes to propel his team to a commanding position in the game.

Leander Dendoncker struck a sublime fifth addition to the team’s scoresheet through a long-range shot before Vitesse’s Lois Openda made his international debut with a stoppage-time goal to cap off a relentless second-half attacking onslaught.
