Bahrain defeats Pakistan 3-1 to clinch AVC Men's Volleyball Nations Cup title

MANAMA: Bahrain secured a 3-1 victory over the Pakistan volleyball team to clinch gold in the AVC Nations Cup here at the Isa Sports City Hall on Tuesday.

Pakistan started with a narrow win, 25-23. In the second set, Bahrain capitalized and bounced back, securing the set with a margin of 25-16.

Despite winning the first set, the Green Shirts could not capitalize on the lead, as they also lost the third set with a score of 25-17.

Bahrain displayed a sheer demonstration after battling out in the first, claiming their maiden title with a win of 25-18 in the last set.

A day earlier, Pakistan outplayed the defending champions Qatar in a rematch of the previous year’s final showdown.

Pakistan, which remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, secured a spot in the final four with a dominant 3-1 win over Indonesia in the quarterfinals.

Pakistan came from behind after losing the opening set to win by the score of 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-17.

Pakistan defeated Chinese Taipei and the Philippines in the group stage, displaying a dominant performance that advanced them to the next stage of the tournament.

For the unversed, the tournament was played in the capital of Bahrain, Manama, from June 17 to 24, featuring 12 teams.

The teams include Pakistan, Bahrain, Indonesia, Thailand, Qatar, Australia, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, the Philippines, South Korea, Vietnam, and New Zealand.

For context, the tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2026 Asian Volleyball Championship, with top-performing teams earning world ranking points and potential entry into the 2028 Olympic Games and the 2027 FIVB World Championships.
