‘Babar Azam should be captain of team until he retires’ says Miandad

KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain and legendary batter Javed Miandad lauded Pakistan’s all-format captain Babar Azam and stated that the skipper should remain as captain of the national team until he retires from cricket after the Green Shirts registered a historic win in the Galle Test on Wednesday.

The Babar Azam-led side chased a historic 342-run target in the fourth inning, the highest chase by any team at the venue, to beat Sri Lanka by four wickets on the back of an astounding unbeaten 160-run knock by opener Abdullah Shafique.

“Babar Azam is mature now. He should be the captain of the team until he retires from the game,” said Miandad on his official Youtube channel.

He further hailed the skipper for leading the team from the front and inspiring confidence in other team members through his performance.

“He led the team brilliantly. The most important thing is he is performing brilliantly himself. He leads from the front and it shows confidence. Often, if a captain doesn’t perform, it can affect the team negatively, and it leads to his downfall,” said Miandad.

“Team is playing as a combined unit, and the credit goes to our players as well as our no.1 captain. He is our captain cool. He doesn’t lose his temper,” he added.

While heaping praises he also advised the national team and its skipper to maintain consistency and perform well on every new day.

“The team must be consistent. I advise Babar and the rest of the players that every day is a new day. They should forget what they achieved yesterday,” he concluded.
