TRINIDAD: Pakistan captain Babar Azam equalled the national record for most run-out dismissals in Test cricket during the second Test against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval on Tuesday.
Resuming on his overnight score of 86, Babar added two runs before being run out for 88 in the 75th over following a mix-up with Abdullah Shafique.
Pakistan had resumed the day at 266-2 with Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique making a cautious start as the West Indies bowlers maintained disciplined lines and lengths to keep the scoring in check.
The pressure eventually resulted in Babar’s run-out. While attempting a quick single after nudging the ball into the off side, Babar was caught well short by a direct hit from Brandon King at cover.
Babar’s dismissal also extended his wait for a Test century, with his last hundred coming against New Zealand in 2022. He struck one six and 10 fours in his 147-ball knock of 88.
It was the seventh run-out dismissal of Babar’s Test career, drawing him level with former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali and fast-bowling great Wasim Akram.
Former batter Javed Miandad holds the record for Pakistan with eight run-outs in 124 Tests.
